Flood Forecast Resources

Having a good forecast for when and where the next flooding will occur can make a huge difference in your flood preparation.  If you have enough warning, you can save lives and limit the damage from flood waters by utilizing a quickly deployed temporary flood barrier system.  The Big Bags USA system is affordable, simple to setup and tear down, and can be stored easily.  If the forecast if for flooding to occur, you can protect your home or business.

Weather Warning Map for 2/22/14


1) www.Weather.Gov - This is a great site with a lot of forecast information.  You can quickly see where sever weather is occurring, Active Alerts, flood advisories and warning, wind advisories and warnings, and you can customize the site to center around your zip code.  This is the first site we recommend you start with!

2) www.NoaaWatch.gov/Floods.php - Another useful resource with a lot of information centered on flooding.  This site has a very nice visual of the USA indicating where flooding is occurring.  It shows River and Lake level information, recent flood warnings and flash flood warnings, and has forecasts for river flooding, excessive rainfall, and daily rainfall accumulation. 

3) http://water.weather.gov/ahps/forecasts.php - Also provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, this site had very detailed information for river flooding forecasts and actual river stream gage measurements.  You can quickly see where flooding is actually happening now and via stream gage observations, the level of flooding (Major, Moderate, Minor, Near Flood stage).  We also like the longer term "Experimental Long-Range River Flood Risk" feature of this website.  It can give you some forecast information for the next 3 months!
