Flood Warning vs. Flood Watch

With Spring finally here, we can expect to see some rainy days across the country in the near future. It only takes a small amount of water to create flooding. Big Bags USA® is here to provide you with resources for protecting yourselves, your family and your community. One of the most important things you can do to prepare is make sure you know your terminology. When you hear information about flooding on the news, you'll want to know what they are talking about!

Flash Flood Warning

A Flash Flood Warning is issued when a flash flood is imminent or occurring. If you are in a flood prone area, you'll want to move immediately to high ground. A flash flood is a sudden violent flood that can take from as little as a few minutes to hours to develop. It is even possible to experience a flash flood in areas not immediately receiving rain.

Flood Warning

If a Flood Warning is issued, this means the hazardous weather event is imminent or already happening. It is also issued when flooding is imminent or occurring.

Flood Watch

A Flood Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for a specific hazardous weather event to occur. It is also issued when conditions are favorable for flooding. It does not mean that flooding will definitely occur, just that it is possible.

Flood Advisory

A Flood Advisory is issued when a specific weather event that is forecast to occur may become a nuisance. It is issued when flooding is not expected to be bad enough to issue a warning. However, it may cause significant inconvenience, and if caution is not exercised, it could lead to situations that may threaten life and/or property.

Flooding can happen coast to coast, whether you live near a body of water or not. In order to stay safe it is important to be informed. Big Bags USA® is here for all your flood protection needs. From safety advice to actual flood barrier products, we're here to help you be prepared!
