Weekly Weather: What’s Happening In the Nation?

At Big Bags USA®, we stay in tune with the weather, both locally and nationally. What we want most of all is for communities to find a solution to their flooding issues. Because of this, we watch to see what’s happening in the world around us, and when an area calls for help, we respond. Big Bags flood barriers are an extremely economical solution for low floodplains, areas that are susceptible to hurricanes, and anywhere that experiences recurrent or flash floods.

With that in mind, there are still several communities that we don’t get to help and support because they either haven’t heard of our efficient flood barriers or have decided not to invest in them. Here are a few floods that have been happening around the nation this week.

Flooding In Northeast Ohio

The communities across Northeast Ohio are dealing with the flooding of the Chagrin River. The local law enforcement is monitoring the river and closing roads as necessary. This specifically applies to Lorain County in Ohio, but flood warnings have been issued for Lake, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Holmes, Wayne, and Erie counties due to melting snow and rain. The warning will continue until 9:45 p.m. Thursday for Lorain and Erie counties and the warning was issued particularly for the flooding Black and Huron rivers.

Large Storm Hitting Central US & Heading East

There was a large storm that developed in the central U.S. that moved east on Wednesday and brought snow, a wintry mix, severe weather, and flooding rain. This storm dumped over 17 inches of snow in the mountains of Colorado, but freezing rain was also reported in parts of Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana on Tuesday night. As the storm went Northeast, heavy rain combined with mild temperatures could cause last week’s snow to rapidly melt, which would cause additional flooding concerns.

Flood Warnings Continue for Bartholomew County

There are several rivers in Indiana, including in Bartholomew County, IN, where Emergency Management said flood warnings continue. A winter storm brought a combination of rain and snow on Saturday, but this combined with an inch and a half of rain on Wednesday is leading to rivers and streams rapidly rising. The flooding will affect numerous local and state roads, agricultural land, and some river parks and/or cabins.

Heavy Rain Could Cause Flooding Overnight in Maryland

There was heavy rain in the forecast across the Baltimore region on Wednesday night into Thursday morning. With the rain was some possibly damaging winds in the forecast for Thursday morning coming from the southwest at 20-30 mph and up to 50 mph. The frozen ground and frigid temperatures make it easy for excess runoff to flood streams and low-lying urban areas.

Economical Flood Barriers

While it may appear that there is nothing as economical as sandbags - it’s not the case when that protection method is not efficient. It costs a lot to hire people to fill the sandbags, and they are not an efficient way of protecting your property. Big Bags USA provides flood barriers that are made from 6mm thick polypropylene, it’s made from the highest UV resistant polymers available, which increases the longevity in sunlight. They provide flexibility which allows the product to be used on ALL surfaces without a need for trenching or leveling to get a good seal. They are also 200 times faster to deploy than a traditional sandbag. Our flood barrier system is high-quality and superior.
