You’ve probably heard of the “hundred-year flood” but do you know how the term really affects you? This winter and spring combination has been devastating to so many communities across the Midwest with a combination of snowmelt, spring flooding , tornadoes, and more. The weather has been nothing short of astronomical. In fact, an article by USA Today said "Flooding in at least 8 states along portions of the Mississippi River – due to relentless, record-breaking spring rainfall – is the longest-lasting since the "Great Flood" of 1927, the National Weather Service said." We wanted to take a bit of time to look into historical floods , how often or frequent the record flooding is happening, and even take a quick peek into potential cycles. This spring has been one of the hardest we've seen in a long while. So many areas in the Midwest have been experiencing a state of emergency with floodwaters threatening their doors. In fact, every county in Oklahoma is under a state of emergency, and they aren't the only ones. Spring is coming in like a lion, and that's for sure. With all of the historic flooding that we've been having this year, it is only one more surprise when we then start experiencing tornadoes as well. This week has been a hard one for many areas of the Midwest, Oklahoma experience raging flood waters, and our own state of Missouri had devastating tornadoes. Not far from our home base in Eldon, Missouri, tornadoes ripped through the small historic town. Just a little farther up the state in Jefferson City, they also had terrible tornadic activity. Just when we begin to think that things are going to slow down, the rain keeps on coming. It's like playing Russian Roulette with the weather, and most of the time cities are fine, but there are a few times where it becomes a really big deal.
