Preparation Tips for Spring Flooding
With the holidays ahead and a whole season of winter just past that, it seems unthinkable to start planning for spring flooding. However, your level of preparation could have a strong impact on how your spring season goes, so it’s not a bad idea to start thinking about it. Spring 2019 threw a lot of curveballs to the Midwest states and agricultural and community areas were bombarded with storms, snowmelt, and floodwaters. It wasn’t what anyone was expecting, but it was disastrous all the same, and many areas are still experiencing the setbacks from that weather.
At Big Bags USA, we know how quickly flooding can impact your life, which was why we created a product to help communities, businesses, homes, and agricultural areas get ahead of Mother Nature and start planning. Here are a few things you can start doing now to get a head start on Spring weather. You can’t predict the future, but you can plan for the unexpected!
Big Bags USA® would like to assist in pre-flood time frames to help minimize property damage, as well as research and develop new methods for helping flood victims, their families and the surrounding communities. In areas prone to flooding in the past, stockpiling Big Bags USA® flood barriers in strategic locations can greatly reduce response time. We work closely with Emergency Management Directors, Public Works Directors, and Utility Directors in your area to help in the planning, if needed, and optimize solutions for future floods. For more information on how we can help you and your community be better prepared in 2020, give us a call at 1-88-337-0537!

Evaluate Your Risk
No state is exempt from flooding. The fact is, it can happen anywhere, at any time of year, to any community. Some places will experience more devastation than others, and others may feel very exempt from flooding catastrophes. However, you don’t have to live near a body of water to be at risk of flooding. Factors such as changing weather patterns and land development can present new flooding risks for you and your community.Review Insurance
If you haven’t already secured a local insurance agent yet, now is the time. Make sure that you discuss the risks of your area, and discuss flooding coverage. Typical homeowners insurance doesn’t provide coverage for flooding, so it’s important to consider purchasing an additional flood insurance plan - especially if you live in an area at risk.Take Inventory
The first of the year is always a good time to start evaluating, plus, after the holidays you may want to declutter and inventory anyway. Taking a home inventory is one of the best ways to prepare for the worst. Should your home become flooded, and your possessions are destroyed, you have a documented list of items that will need to be replaced. It comes in hand when filing your insurance claim, and taking photos of your possessions as well can be helpful. Don’t forget to save receipts for anything of major value, like appliances, electronics, etc.Check Your Emergency Plan
Flooding rarely gives you time to react. One of the best ways that you can prepare is by creating an emergency plan. It may not seem important now, but in the urgency of the moment, while you’re rushing to avoid the flood, knowing the route you want to take ahead of time can be helpful. Make sure your emergency kit is easy to grab and go when needed, and give emergency contact information to your insurance agent, employer, and family.Create a Big Bags Stockpile
Every flood mitigation plan should include an easily stored flood protection product like Big Bags USA®. Our flood barriers are packaged seven systems per pallet, providing 105 linear foot of protection that can be easily stockpiled. Not only are our systems easy to store, but they're also easy to deploy as well! One, five bag system can be placed and filled by two men in less than 10 minutes. That's equal to 15 lineal feet every 10 minutes. There's no other sandbag deployment method that equals the speed in which a Big Bags USA® flood barrier can be placed!Big Bags USA® would like to assist in pre-flood time frames to help minimize property damage, as well as research and develop new methods for helping flood victims, their families and the surrounding communities.
