Deadly Flash Floods in Missouri

Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall over the weekend of June 25-27 caused flash flooding across parts of Missouri. Roads were swamped and vehicles were stranded. Some homes and businesses were damaged, causing evacuations.

“The Missouri Department of Transportation reported dozens of roads closed due to flooding across the state. Several motorists were rescued from vehicles stranded in flood water in Jefferson City and several vehicles were also reported stuck in flood waters in Columbia.”

Evacuations After Flash Floods in New Mexico

Flash floods struck parts of the state of New Mexico after more than 5 inches of rain fell in 24 hours. High river levels cause flooding and almost 30 roadways were closed as a result.

“Levels of the Pecos River and Dark Canyon jumped, causing flooding in areas around Carlsbad and Eddy County on 29 June 2021. Almost 30 roadways were closed as a result. Eddy County officials said residents living near the Tansill Dam and Reservoir were evacuating. The Carlsbad Caverns National Park has been closed due to flooding.”

Floods in South Texas After 460mm of Rain in 4 Days

The state of Texas is making preparations after torrential rain affected South Texas and Costal Bend communities. High water rescues were reported in Rockport where several roads were impassable.

“A wide area of low pressure over southern Texas brought days of torrential rainfall. In a 96 hour period to 09 July, Rockport recorded 18.31 inches (465 mm) of rain. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood emergency for Rockport and Fulton on 08 July. Flash Flood Warnings and Watches are in effect for nearly 3 million residents in the region.”

Rain From Storm Elsa Floods New York Subway

Heavy rain and strong winds caused damage in parts of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut in the USA as Tropical Storm Elsa made its way up to the Northeast coast. Wind damage was reported in parts of New Jersey, while most of the dramatic flooding occurred in parts of New York City and suburbs.

“NYPD said several people had to be rescued from vehicles trapped in flood waters along the Major Deegan Expressway. Several subway stations were flooded with water as deep as 3 feet (1 meter). Images shared on Social Media showed commuters wading through flood water. Some train services were interrupted.”
