With Spring finally here, flooding has become a major concern for some areas.  There's been a lot of interest lately about the National Flood Insurance Program and the Reform after 2012.  We want to provide you with some good information to help you prepare for what mother nature could throw your way. What is the National Flood Insurance Program?  In 1968, Congress created the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to help provide a means for property owners to financially protect themselves. The NFIP offers flood insurance to homeowners, renters, and business owners if their community participates in the NFIP. With the first day of spring upon us, the Big Bags USA team wants to pass along some Spring flooding forecast news.  Overall, the flood potential in the Midwest will be Moderate with an elevated risk of ice jams.  There may be some minor flooding in the Northeast and Southeast National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Forecast NOAA 2014 U.S. Spring Flood Risk According to NOAA’s Spring Outlook released today, rivers in half of the continental United States are at minor or moderate risk of exceeding flood levels this spring with the highest threat in the southern Great Lakes region due to above-average snowpack and a deep layer of frozen ground. Additionally, drought is expected to continue in California and the Southwest.  The continuation of winter weather, above-average snowpack, frozen ground and thick ice coverage on streams and rivers will delay spring flooding into April in the upper Midwest eastward to New England. The Big Bags USA team is very excited with it's latest project...helping the residents of West Seneca, NY prepare for possible future flooding.  West Seneca, NY is a suburb of Buffalo and they have been hard hit by earlier flooding.  This western NY community has decided that flood preparation is better than mitigation, and they have called in Big Bags USA to help! West Seneca Prepares to Bolster Berm Concerns about floodwaters in West Seneca are rising after the devastating flash flooding earlier this winter.  A big project to protect the residents is underway.  Trucks and Labor changed the look behind the homes along Lexington Green and a road was built to access the berm.  On Wednesday, these crews filled some 3,000 three-foot square bags brought by Missouri company Big Bags USA with sand to form a barrier.
