Big Bags USA is helping West Seneca, NY prepare for the next flood!
The Big Bags USA team is very excited with it's latest project...helping the residents of West Seneca, NY prepare for possible future flooding. West Seneca, NY is a suburb of Buffalo and they have been hard hit by earlier flooding. This western NY community has decided that flood preparation is better than mitigation, and they have called in Big Bags USA to help!
Concerns about floodwaters in West Seneca are rising after the devastating flash flooding earlier this winter. A big project to protect the residents is underway. Trucks and Labor changed the look behind the homes along Lexington Green and a road was built to access the berm. On Wednesday, these crews filled some 3,000 three-foot square bags brought by Missouri company Big Bags USA with sand to form a barrier. The barrier will continue the existing berm in the hopes of preventing floodwaters from hitting the same West Seneca neighborhood for a third time during the next thaw.

Going into this spring’s thaw, residents in West Seneca will have several extra feet of protection from the Buffalo Creek. After the creek flooded the neighborhood twice, the town is building a flood barrier wall between the two. The wall is made up of hundreds of specialty sandbags from Big Bags USA, filled with recycled concrete donated by local companies. These bags are designed to last several years, but they’re hoping to find a more permanent solution here. For now though, the added height from the Big Bags USA system will lessen the impact of flooding in the West Seneca area.
