How to Handle Flooding and a Global Pandemic
When it rains, it pours. This seems like an appropriate time to use this statement as our world is facing a pandemic, but also as our country is heading into a time that is most known for flooding and all-around foul weather. The spring season is well known for rains, snowmelt, and even tornadoes, so adding in a virus that has so many quarantined to their homes is going to make for a really unique situation. Big Bags USA has developed our high-quality, FAST flood barrier system because we know that communities and individuals need a way to protect their homes and their businesses. Here are a few things to keep in mind as everyone navigates the next few weeks, the goal is to prepare as much as possible and avoid as many catastrophes as possible.
There are so many communities who have been hit by flooding this year including Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Ohio. Not to mention, there are so many communities along the Mississippi River who are still recovering from last year’s catastrophic flooding. There are many researchers with the Union of Concerned Scientists who compared coronavirus projection models from Columbia University with NOAA’s most recent spring flood forecast, and the projections were alarming, to say the least. It showed that many communities are most likely to be hit with both the global pandemic AND spring flooding between now and May 31st. This could make for a very tense situation for so many communities, and Big Bags USA wants to see you as prepared as you can be for this situation.
When social distancing is so important, knowing that you can have a protective flood barrier set up quickly and with a very small team can be the most important reassurance. Here are a few other ways you can prepare as you deal with both flooding and COVID-19.

Big Bags USA protective flood barrier systems are ground conforming and therefore can be deployed on terrain that is uneven or unleveled with negligible preparations. The protective flood barrier system is well suited for corner and curved deployments. The systems are stackable directly on top of each other two systems tall, for higher stacking the pyramid method is advised. In environments that are unreachable with standard equipment, Big Bags USA flood barrier systems are liftable for safe and effective deployment using our spreader bar. Training and organization of labor are also greatly reduced using the Big Bags USA barrier compared to conventional sandbags. Effectively utilizing a smaller unskilled labor force creates a larger margin in budgeting and mitigation compared to a conventional sandbag barrier. These times can feel overwhelming, but that’s nothing to what it will feel like if you don’t have a plan in place.
