Flood Report: December 2020 (Part 2)

Flooding can cause catastrophic damages with lingering effects. So, when dealing with your flood preparedness plans, it's important to take them very seriously. Doing so will allow you to mitigate flood damages and minimize the chance of injury. At Big Bags USA, our patented flood barrier system was created to serve as an innovative solution for your flood preparation needs. In this week's blog, we're highlighting a few of the areas around the country that are experiencing or at risk of experiencing flooding.

Dec. 23 - Christmas Week Storm Spreads Snow, Strong Winds, Heavy Rain, and Severe Storms Across Central, East U.S.

"A potent storm will spread snow, strong winds, flooding rainfall, and severe thunderstorms across parts of the central and eastern states from today into early Christmas Day. Snowfall whipped around by gusty winds will result in dangerous travel conditions across the Northern Plains and upper Midwest into Wednesday evening. Blizzard conditions are expected from the eastern Dakotas and northeast Nebraska into northwest Iowa and parts of Minnesota. The National Weather Service has issued blizzard warnings for these areas. Snow and strong winds will also affect Minneapolis-St. Paul, where a winter storm warning is in effect. Travel is highly discouraged in the metro area this afternoon and evening."

Dec. 21 - 'This is heart-wrenching': Salem homeless camps washed away by flooding

"SALEM, Ore. — Hundreds of homeless people live in two parks in Salem at camps designated by the city. Heavy rain caused flooding, washing out many tents. Now, many say they're left with nothing. Heavy rains over the weekend washed away tents and everything inside them at Cascades Gateway Park and Wallace Marine Park in Salem.  A sewage overflow contaminating the Willamette River means anything that’s salvaged from the water will likely be contaminated."

Dec. 2 - 'The wettest day ever': 4 of 6 missing people found safe; homes destroyed after record Alaska rainstorm

"Search and rescue efforts continued Thursday after a record-breaking rainstorm swept across Southeast Alaska, triggering mudslides and widespread flooding. Four of the six people who went missing Wednesday after a mudslide in Haines have been found safe, State Troopers said Thursday. Haines, a community of about 2,000 people located in the northern part of the Alaska Panhandle, has been among the most devastated cities. At least four homes have been destroyed in Haines, according to the Alaska Department of Public Safety."

Flooding can happen at any time, anywhere. Especially during the winter/spring seasons as there are vast amounts of snowmelt, leading to runoff and overflowing waterways.
